This morning we had our Powhiri for 2016! It's such a beautiful experience, every year feels like the first! Today, I'm selecting a few phrases from my welcome speech from this morning....

Something we all very much have in common is the fact that we are in a privileged position. As key people in children’s lives, we, together, can have a hugely positive impact on their happiness and ‘success’ in the widest sense of the word. Success doesn’t just arrive by dialling 0800.

We have a big job to do. Sometimes it won’t be easy or straightforward. We may have to step back and let children make mistakes and learn and grow from them. We, too, in turn, may make mistakes and also learn and grow from them!

Let’s navigate our way through this in partnership. The original people of this special place - Whetukairangi Pa - used the stars as reference points.

We also have reference points that guide us but when we talk about children we are mainly in uncharted territory….. for they are individuals and come with their own strengths, needs, quirks and often fascinating take on the world !

In the nine years I have led this school, it has been continuously spiralling upwards and we are very proud of and celebrate our many extraordinary results. These results require passion, drive and energy and an enormous amount of hard work and support from the parent community. This upwards trajectory will continue... as long as we are committed to the creation of a unique, dynamic and nurturing environment. An environment we all can love.
