This week I have been at Geelong Grammar School, south of Melbourne, being immersed further in the 'science of wellbeing'. You will see from the photo of the clock tower that the school could not be more different from ours. However, beneath the physical appearance, we are very much alike. We have the desire for our school communities to flourish, 'to feel good and do good'.

Last Saturday, the teaching staff and Board of Trustees got together to confirm the direction for 2016. Wellbeing is firmly positioned within this plan. It cannot be just a focus on 'wellbeing' or academic achievement, it must be an and. They go hand in glove.

As a staff we are in a learning phase about the theory and research that sits behind a lot of the practice in this area. It's exciting. There will be opportunities to discuss this growing field a lot more in 2016 as it really is something that needs to reach beyond the school and what happens between 8.55 am and 3.00 pm.

You can expect emails flowing thick and fast regarding Our Secret Garden School Fair from now. Speaking of feeling good and doing good, here's a fantastic opportunity for us all. Please step up and get behind the biggest fundraising event on the calendars. The rewards are huge.

Let's all enjoy spending some extra time with the people we care about this weekend. If you haven't found time to listen to the TED TALK by Neil Pasricha from a few weeks ago, I really encourage you to. You will be able to find plenty of 'awesome' things and please encourage your children to add to the list!
